A Week In The Life Of A Year Four Pupil

Year 4 had a great week, beginning with a new topic in English on Monday 16th January.  Year 4 are reading 'Gregory Cool' which is about a boy named Gregory who visits his Grandparents far away in Tobago. When he wakes up on his first day in Tobago with his grandparents, his heart sinks. The food is strange, the sun too hot, his cousin Lennox is on another wave length and there are none of the televisions, video games and other high-tech gadgets that a cool city-boy takes for granted.  Year 4 are really enjoying it so far!

In Maths, children are really enjoying following our Singapore Maths programme.  They are extending and deepening their knowledge and understanding of multiplication and division.

Pupils are thoroughly enjoying applying these maths skills to their Design and Technology project - Lighthouses.  They used specialist tools and materials to complete their lighthouses; they look fantastic!

Mr. Phillips, a peripatetic music teacher specialising in drumming, worked with Year 4 pupils this week on African drumming.  They certainly raised the roof in a very rhythmic way!

Also during the week, pupils enjoyed their P.E sessions in the hall and their weekly Music session with Mr. Moss.

To top the week, Year 4 pupils were lucky enough to take part in a whole school assembly with published poet and author Paul Delaney.  Paul delivered an inspiring assembly about how to became a writer, performing parts of his poems to the children.  Year 4 pupils then returned to their classrooms and wrote their own poems.  Pupils in Year 4 linked their poems to their current topic (Rainforests) with some excellent results.

As you can see, it has been a busy week!  Thank you for taking time to read our blog and watch our video.  We hope you enjoyed sharing Year 4's learning journey this week.
