INTERNATIONAL LINKS
The school demonstrates a comprehensive approach that fosters global awareness, cultural understanding, social responsibility & sustainable practices.
This takes places in many different ways:
International perspectives are woven throughout the curriculum. Students explore global issues through Lyfta such as climate change, poverty, inequality, and human rights. Subjects like geography, history and PSHE are enriched with content that encourages students to think globally and act locally.
Diverse Perspectives reflect a wide range of cultures, perspectives, and experiences, helping students understand the diverse world. This includes stories, music, art, and current events from different regions / cultures.
The school has active partnerships with schools or communities in other countries. Regular communication (e.g., video calls, letters, shared projects) allows students to learn about and engage with their peers abroad, building friendships and fostering empathy. Projects could include joint research, art projects, or shared fundraising and In-person Exchanges with South Africa and India have been in operation since 2013: Students have opportunities to interact directly with children from different cultures, whether through virtual exchange programs or planned visits to partner schools. These exchanges allow for shared learning experiences and broaden students’ worldviews. This fosters a global perspective, allowing children to learn about different systems, cultures, and develop a global mindset, encouraged to become responsible, informed citizens of the world.
Students are involved in meaningful projects that address local and global issues. These include fundraising for international charities, participating in global campaigns / supporting communities in need.
Sustainability Focus: There is a strong emphasis on environmental education. Students are involved in sustainability projects: reducing waste, conserving energy, conservation and promoting eco-friendly practices. They understand the importance of protecting the planet for future generations.
The school encourages learning multiple languages, fostering communication with children from different parts of the world. Language lessons are also linked to understanding the culture and values associated with those languages – Mother Language Day; books for languages spoken in the school.
Cultural diversity within the school is embraced; students learn from peers who speak different languages. There is an effort to include multiple languages in school life.
